TakebackNYU and NY Post February 20, 2009

I fully commend those people and support their efforts for standing up for something they believe in. Even if the repercussions may be harsh and swift, they haven’t backed down as far as I know and I think it’s a great thing. Kudos to the people who have gone to support them. It’s always beautiful to see people taking a stand for something they believe is morally right (unless it’s an obvious immoral judgment on their part) and to get support from fellow students and any random individual who decided to join in is great. I hope they get what they want, or at least bring it to the conscious of the administration so that changes will be made over time. Never back down if you feel that strongly about something being reprehensible.
Which leads me to my next point. It’s painful to see that the NY Post would publish something that could very easily be mistaken as racially motivated and racially unjustifiable as the cartoon that came out a few days ago. To even use the excuse of the gorilla in Connecticut being the motivation behind the cartoon is cowardly on the part of the editors and the artist. In this day and age, when racial tension has been tempered at face value, it is undoubtedly still radiating underneath the smiles of those who are still living in shock that a black man has been chosen to become the president of our United States. Just because a black man has risen to arguably the most powerful position in the U.S. does not mean that racial issues have just been swept away by the ocean’s current. Eric Holder was correct in his comments. All may seem well, but it just seems well. As redundant as the statement may sound, it is indubitably true. Racial dissatisfaction cannot be cleaned up in a day. It takes time. And the people at NY Post just set us back a couple more “days.”
Until next time….

I was thinking about Barack Obama the other day and I began to think of whether his appointment to the most important position in the United States has really done something to the African American psyche or is it just a temporary flirtation. I mean, it’s great that we finally took a black candidate seriously, although it’s hard to take Jesse or Al seriously. It’s amazing that we have progressed to the point where the nation feels comfortable placing somebody in that position. I’m all for it. Yes we can, etc…
But again, is this just a temporary fix. Is this a temporary high? We are all in the infatuation stage right now, but this fella has a lot of weight on his shoulders. Everything he does can be criticized. Everything he does can be praised. It could go either way. But I believe that if the result is the former, it will penetrate the wide breadth of this plate of black pride that has begun to form. Black people have always had a certain black pride, but it was more focused on “the world is against me” and “you don’t think I’m good enough.” But now it’s similar to “I can do anything,” and I hope that it stays that way. I hope that all the minority races can experience this flirtation of being at the perch of near royalty.
With that said, if they criticize him habitually, the ripple effect could stimy the black thought, the black pride, the black everything. It may not enter crisis mode, but it could set us back a little and it would be a long time before blacks trust America again…
I know I rambled, but I haven’t posted in a while and I needed to put something on here!…until next time…
War On Terror… February 4, 2009

I was wondering…
Why are we fighting a war on terror halfway across the globe when there is civil unrest occurring in the nation to our immediate south? You wouldn’t catch me in Mexico if it was between that or jail. Where are the United States priorities. I hope Barack Obama recognizes the impact it could have on our nation and decides to do something about it. Before it’s too late.
I wish the innocent citizens of Mexico well. I will pray for them…

New semester, new me…
Still haven’t gotten my grades back but I HAVE started doing my reading for next semester, unfortunately. And I found an interesting statistic in my Criminal Law textbook. Nationally, nearly one in three African American males aged 20-29 is under some form of criminal justice supervision.
Do you see something wrong with that? I do.

Finally done with those finals. Maybe I’ll have more time to post a couple exta times a week. I’ve got a long ride home. Going to stop in the dirty apple before I make it to my financial destination. I’ve got an important task to take care of there. Right now I’m working on three hours sleep but there’s a snow storm approaching so I want to miss as much of it as I can. I’m on the transit system right now, heading towards the car rental. Hopefully they’ll let my age go unnoticed.
Anyway, first semester of law school. It was interesting. I only spoke once the entire semester and that was a little frightening. I expect that I’ll be talking a bit more next time around. The tests were the worst. One test the entire semester for each class. All you have to live on. It sucks, but we all signed up for it.
And as we speak…the train just broke down…
Until next time…

Subject: Remarks from CBS Sunday Morning ( hope we find God again before it is too late!! )
The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.
My confession:
I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees.. I don’t feel threatened. I don’t feel discriminated against. That’s what they are: Christmas trees.
It doesn’t bother me a bit when people say, ‘Merry Christmas’ to me. I don’t think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn’t bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu If people want a crïeche, it’s just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.
I don’t like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don’t think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can’t find it in the Constitution and I don’t like it being shoved down my throat.
Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren’t allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that’s a sign that I’m getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.
In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it’s not funny, it’s intended to get you thinking.
Billy Graham’s daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her ‘How could God let something like this happen?’ (regarding Katrina) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, ‘I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we’ve been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?’
In light of recent events… terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O’Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn’t want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.
Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn’t spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr Spock’s son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he’s talking about. And we said OK.
Now we’re asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don’t know right from wrong, and why it doesn’t bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.
Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with ‘WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.’
Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world’s going to hell Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send ‘jokes’ through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.
Are you laughing yet?
Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you’re not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it.
Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it … no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don’t sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.
My Best Regards, Honestly and respectfully,
Ben Stein

Only here would they have a marathon in 20 degree weather. What WAS heartwarming though was the guy who appeared to be in his 70’s or 80’s participating in it. Makes ya appreciate life and encourages you to live it until it’s gone. The kid being pushed in the wheelchair was inspiring too. Teaches you that you can do anything you set out to do.
What I don’t get is these dudes running onto the bus with just a short sleeve shirt on and wondering why they’re so cold…smh…
